This peony has a Canadian connection, being named after Dr. Frederick G. Brethour of Toronto, Ontario, one of the few great Canadian peony hybridizers. Dr. Brethour is fortunate to have his name memorialized by a peony considered to be one of the elite white varieties; Dr. F. G. Brethour also boasts a reputation of being one of the best late varieties that you can grow. Flowers are a shining, pristine white, illuminated by an inner ivory glow, and are of an exquisite, highly refined rose-double form. The immaculate white petals are not sullied by any red flecks, and along with other excellent cut flower qualities this has led to a reputation as a supreme cut flower as well. The plant presents well in the landscape with its deep green, handsome foliage and strong stems.
