There has to be something special about a variety still enjoying popularity as it nears 2 centuries since its introduction, right? Right! The first remarkable characteristic that comes to mind is the fragrance, which is that of old roses and is pervasive and just plain divine. The next is how dependably floriferous plants are. Plants are undoubtedly carpeted with blooms every season. Combine these features with a great vase life and you have a variety that has been used extensively in the world of commercial cut flowers. Flowers are an energetic rose pink, full double with a globular form, and as flowers mature then tend to develop a high reaching crown. In its time it was highly prized for being the first double to bloom, and even today it remains one of the earliest blooming double lactifloras. Edulis Superba has stood well against the test of time, being one of the most well-balanced heirloom lactiflora varieties. This jack of all trades gets a lot right and has earned a hard-won place in our gardens. Side buds present that extend the bloom time. One of the old varieties in trade.
