An outstanding Itoh that is packing some serious flower power. Pink Double Dandy is nearly peerless amongst the Itohs for its heavy flowering nature. Mature specimens are completely blanketed in flowers, producing close to 100 flowers on a single plant! The flowers themselves bear a mark of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Blooms are lavender pink and this colour is retained in the margin of the petal most strongly, producing a two toned picotee effect. Cherry coloured flares add a further element of dimension and decorate the center with a ring of sparse stamens and non conspicuous carpels. Flowers range from semi-double to double in form. As flowers fade they take on a very unique antique nude appearance of old rose pink and flesh pink colours, most unusual and attractive. Strong, rigid stems hold the flower upright under all conditions, as expected of an intersectional peony, and attractive, deep green Itoh type foliage results in a good looking plant all season long. Many sidebuds contribute to one of the longest bloom times of the Itohs and produce wave after wave of colour. Donald Smith, the hybridizer of this plant and many other excellent Itohs in commerce, considers this his top must-have plant amongst his creations, making this a must-grow.
