Pageant
$52.00 (excl. tax)
A rare and spectacular early hybrid that combines albiflora, officinalis, and macrophylla bloodlines. The enormous single flowers are soft light pink, dramatically dominated by an immense, glowing mass of long golden stamens—the center alone can span several inches. The effect is bold and architectural rather than delicate, giving the flower a commanding presence unlike most singles.
Plants are exceptionally tall and wide, often reaching four feet, with dense foliage and an upright, confident habit. Early blooming and highly floriferous, Pageant makes an immediate statement in the landscape and reflects the experimental ambition of Saunders’ triple hybrids. Seldom offered and increasingly hard to source, it stands as a remarkable example of mid-century hybridizing.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Pageant is about scale and spectacle, valued for its height, strong structure, and oversized single flowers with an unusually large golden center. Its rare parentage and early bloom make it a distinctive and uncommon peony in the garden.
