A cheerful and uplifting colour combination delights, but within the centre of the flower a surprise awaits! Japanese-form flowers are composed of deep pink guards that cup a central cluster of spiky staminodes that twist and turn like forked tongues of flame. This well proportioned, hemispherical centre is where the allure lies in the flower – the combination of yellow and pink in the staminodes works together to produce a centre that appears quite orange! The overall effect achieved is a hot colour presence that lights up the garden. Flowers reside on tall, ramrod straight stems that push the flower well above the foliage and hold them there well. Plants are floriferous with many side buds that amplify the impact of the happy flowers and extend the bloom period. Bred by Albert Niva of Pacific Peonies, an originator of several lovely Japanese-form varieties.
