The colour of this peony is something to get excited about! A most magnificent deep red with outstanding clarity that is neither purple nor brown – not something you see every day! The medium-sized flowers display a ball-double type form with broad, rounded outer petals and have a fantastic sheen to them. Flowers may give you a glance at their golden contrasting stamens as they mature and reach terminal stages. Plants are very tall, standing at over 1 meter, and the flowers are presented high above the foliage, but strong stems in a beautiful wine red manage to hold them well and provide a great landscape presentation. Foliage is a terrific, deep blue-green. Chippewa is a floriferous plant that has sidebuds to extend the blooming season and is a strong grower. The colour of this variety cuts through the landscape and is immediately noticeable. Bred by Arthur Murawska, known for the importance he placed on excellence in the entire plant in his introductions.
