Candy Cane
$85.00 (excl. tax)
A hidden gem that is rarely offered, Candy Cane is bred by Donald Smith, one of the most impressive Itoh breeders of our time. Named not for the nostalgic alternating red and white pattern that reminds us of the holidays, the name Candy Cane actually refers to the lavender streaking that is commonly seen running the length of the petal. Flowers are a smooth, creamy yellow that are flushed pink upon opening; the overall effect is a flower that is surprisingly orange in the initial stages of bloom. Watching the colors of the flower constantly evolve as they move towards a yellow colour is truly captivating. Prominent red basal petal flares. These unique features all combine to give a plant of considerable character. Plant height is on the shorter side for an Itoh variety at 26 inches. Strong, rigid stems hold the flower upright under all conditions, as expected of an intersectional peony, and attractive, deep green Itoh type foliage results in a good looking plant all season long. Side buds extend the blooming period.
