Avalanche
$45.00 (excl. tax)
Aptly named as plants routinely look buried under cascades of its snow white blooms! Avalanche is another long enduring representative of popular 19th century French breeding – a tried and true variety that has dutifully served in gardens for well over a century. Remaining popular to this day, Avalanche delights with its white double flowers that are of a compact profile in which incurved petals are loosely arranged, giving an airy impression. Petals have a slight waxy texture and occasionally display traces of crimson edging in the centre of the flower. Another treasured quality of the 19th century French varieties are the associated enchanting aromas, and Avalanche produces them in spades. Flowers keep upright on stems that have attractive dark green foliage. Free flowering and a strong grower. Side buds extend the blooming period. There is a reason why this variety has been around for so long!
WHY WE LOVE IT: Avalanche has earned its place through generations of gardeners. Few peonies combine such abundance, fragrance, and reliability with this kind of old-world refinement. The plants flower freely, hold themselves well, and fill the garden with scent—proof that truly great peonies never go out of style.
