Claire De Lune
$52.00 (excl. tax)
This beauty draws you in gently, glowing rather than demanding attention. This rare and historic cultivar is the only successful result of the remarkable cross Paeonia lactiflora ‘Monsieur Jules Elie’ × Paeonia mlokosewitschii, achieved after an estimated 4,000 pollinations.
Blooming early, it opens as a large, luminous single with creamy pale-yellow, softly crinkled guard petals surrounding a rich mass of buttery yellow stamens, highlighted by yellow filaments and warm orange anthers. Hairy carpels with delicate pink tips add a final, distinctive touch.
Plants reach about 28 inches, with slender but sturdy stems, pink-flushed spring foliage, and a compact, vigorous habit. Rare and historically important, Claire de Lune also offers usable fertility—making it as valuable to breeders as it is beautiful in the garden.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Claire de Lune is proof that patience in plant breeding truly matters.
